The vineyard
“Casa Vigna” means “House by the Vineyard.” On our sunny southern slope, there is a small, old vineyard that has been restored. The grape variety of our region is Dolcetto, which produces a fine table wine. Of course, you can taste our wine or take a bottle home with you. Just north of Casa Vigna, the Barolo, Nebbiolo, and Barbera wines are made. A visit to this region, with a tasting at a cantina, is highly recommended. We have a few great recommendations.
Birds & wildlife spotting
Birdwatchers will be in their element at Casa Vigna.
The hop, with its beautiful crest, can often be seen in the vineyard or on the path. If you continue walking down the path, you may spot the brightly colored bee-eater on the power lines. The nesting holes in the sandbanks are also clearly visible from the path. In the evening, you can hear the monotonous call of the scops owl, and the nightjar also makes its presence known. We’re only mentioning a few species here, but there are, of course, many more interesting birds to spot in the area.
Deer also regularly pass through the vineyard or along the path. Wild boars live in the valley and can often be seen along the forest edge. Additionally, you might come across a fox, badger, or marten here.
In the spring, fireflies make an appearance as dusk falls. Their yellow lights dance through the air.
Hiking and cycling
The surroundings invite you to enjoy hiking or cycling, and this can be done directly from Casa Vigna. There are also several well-marked routes in the area, such as Deserta Langrum, which are suitable for both hiking and mountain biking. Additionally, you can use apps like Komoot or Wikiloc to explore the area.
For the more experienced cyclist or road racer, the rolling landscape offers plenty of opportunities.
For less experienced cyclists, we offer two excellent electric bikes, the Cube Kathmandu Hybrid One 750 with a low step-through, available for rent. These bikes were rated the best in the April 2024 issue of the dutch magazine ANWB Kampioen.
Ceva
Ceva is a small town with about 5,800 inhabitants, located 4 km from our property. The ‘centro storico’ (historic center) features arcades with shops, some of which stay cool in the summer. Ceva serves as a regional hub, offering many amenities, including bakeries, supermarkets, a hospital, a large market, a theater, and numerous street parties and festivals. You will also find great restaurants where you can enjoy the regional slow food cuisine.
Every Wednesday morning, Ceva hosts a large weekly market with stalls set up throughout the town. In the old town center, you’ll find stalls selling clothes, while across the Tanaro River is the true farmers’ market.
Ceva has a train station with direct connections to the beautiful city of Turin and Savona on the coast.
To look at the world with fresh eyes, to feel like a child again—this is the concept behind the Panchine Giganti, the giant benches, designed by Chris Bangle. These grand benches are scattered across the Alta Langhe in Piemonte. Sitting on these giant benches brings out the child in you. From the bench in Ceva, you have a stunning view of the town.

The water flows gently, and swimming is allowed. A beautiful walk from our property follows this river to the village of Ceva.
Fishing in this river is only allowed with a permit, but for fishing enthusiasts, there are opportunities.
the italian kitchen
The Piedmontese cuisine is known for the slow-food concept. Love and attention to product and preparation result in honest and flavorful food. Delicious local dishes with truffle or cheese. We are happy to share these tasty spots with you.
PANNA COTTA RECIPE
To get in the mood (or to recall some good memories), here’s an original ‘Dolce’ from Piemonte: Panna Cotta.
Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 400 ml heavy cream
- 150 grams powdered sugar
- Seeds from 1 vanilla pod
- 2½ sheets of gelatin
In a pan, bring the unwhipped cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla seeds to a simmer. Soak the gelatin sheets in water, squeeze them out, and dissolve them in the cream mixture. Pour the mixture into metal or plastic molds and refrigerate for several hours to allow them to set properly. Turn the panna cotta out onto a plate and drizzle with some syrup. Enjoy your meal!
